Various species of plants with poisonous fruits – part 2

In the previous part of our article, we discussed some plants whose fruits may be dangerous to health or even life.Now we continue this topic by presenting other species that are worth avoiding when picking fruit in nature.Remember that not all plants with poisonous fruit are also poisonous in their entire mass.Nevertheless, it is always worth being careful and getting to know plants well before we decide to eat them.

Coral viburnum

Coral viburnum, also known as red viburnum, is a beautiful shrub with distinctive red fruit.Unfortunately, these tempting fruits are poisonous, especially when raw.They contain substances that may cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.Coral viburnum is sometimes used to make jams and drinks, but only after proper processing to remove poisonous compounds.

Common buckthorn

Common buckthorn, also known as elderberry, has berries that tend to be appetizing.Unfortunately, raw berries can cause nausea and vomiting.However, after appropriate processing, such as cooking or drying, they can be used to prepare preserves.

Sabine juniper (sawina)

Juniper sabinia, also called savin, has inconspicuous berries with an intense scent.Unfortunately, these berries are poisonous and can cause digestive problems.Juniper is used to make gin, but only the juniper fruit used in the distillation process is safe for consumption.

Prickly holly

Prickly holly is a shrub with tempting red fruits, but unfortunately they are poisonous.They can cause nausea, diarrhea and digestive problems.Holly is an ornamental plant and is not intended for consumption.

Common yew

The common yew is a tree with red fruit that looks like berries.Unfortunately, they are very poisonous and can cause serious poisoning.Yew is a protected plant and it is not recommended to collect or eat its fruit.
