Who is supposed to know… whether sex education exists in Poland?

What is sexual education and does it exist in Poland? This question raises a lot of controversy and doubts.

In this article, we will try to dispel any doubts and look at the current situation of sexual education in the country.

So what’s the deal with sex education – is it there or not?

Sex education is a process that aims to provide knowledge about sexuality, interpersonal relationships, sexual health and responsibility for one’s own body and decisions. The aim of sexual education is to promote healthy sexual behavior, prevent sexually transmitted diseases, prevent unwanted pregnancy and counteract sexual violence.

Sex education exists in Poland, but it is not compulsory and still remains a taboo topic. Many parents and teachers still avoid talking openly about this topic with young people. However, the Ministry of National Education has issued guidelines on sex education in schools, which gives teachers the opportunity to introduce this topic into the curriculum.

Teaching at school – wdŻ

In Poland, sexual education is often provided as part of the subject “Education for family life” (Family Life Education), which is part of the curriculum in primary and secondary schools. However, not all schools offer this subject, and even in those that do, the topic of sexual education is often omitted or treated superficially.

Teachers are often insufficiently prepared to conduct sex education lessons, which may lead to incorrect provision of information or promotion of stereotypes. The lack of uniform standards and guidelines in this matter means that the quality of teaching may vary depending on the school and teacher.

Education on the Internet

In the era of the Internet and access to a huge amount of information, young people often acquire knowledge about sexuality on their own, using various online sources. Unfortunately, these are not always reliable and appropriate sources. Therefore, it is important that sex education also includes the ability to think critically and evaluate information available on the Internet.

Non-governmental organizations and various educational initiatives aim to provide young people with reliable and up-to-date knowledge about sexuality. However, their activities are often limited by lack of financial and public support.

What steps can be taken to improve the state of sexual education in Poland? Here are some suggestions:
